Hoax Bomb Alert Forces Evacuation Of Train In Turkey

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Aug 20 (AFP) - A train in Turkey's southeastern city of Diyarbakir was evacuated Friday following a bomb alert which turned out to be a hoax, local officials said.
Security forces evacuated the 360 passengers after an unidentified person called the police shortly before the train was to leave the station and said that a time bomb was planted in one of its five cars.
The train set off for its destination in the nearby province of Siirt after police found nothing dangerous on board, an AFP correspondent on the scene said.
Kurdish rebels have carried out a series of deadly attacks in the country's predominantly Kurdish southeast since calling off a five-year unilateral ceasefire with the government three months ago.
