ANTAKYA - Hatay Governor Abdulkadir Sari met Syria's Latakia Governor Zahed Haj-Musa in Syria.
Sari and Haj-Musa discussed development of mutual relations on cultural, social and economic areas, sources said on Friday.
Sari said, ''we aim a rapid development of two countries together. Our cooperation on cultural, social and economic areas will soon attain a very good level.''
Sari stressed, ''Latakia and Hatay are university cities. Rectors of universities in two cities can develop joint projects on education issues.''
Noting, ''problems in transportation should be eliminated to carry commercial activities to a desired level,'' Sari said, ''Hatay-Latakia road should be opened to truck traffic as well.''
Meanwhile, Latakia Governor Haj-Musa said, ''Turkey is a door opening to Europe, and Syria is a door to Arabian countries and Asia. Both countries are crossing points. We believe that cooperation between two countries in tourism area is crucial. Also, we want to establish trade centers to further develop economic cooperation between Turkey and Syria.''
Sari and Haj-Musa also decided to enhance border security, ensure cooperation between Hatay's Mustafa Kemal University and Latakia's Tisirin University, and to prepare tourism package programs covering Hatay and Latakia.
