GAZA, Aug 20 (AFP) - A 60-year-old Palestinian died from his wounds Friday the day after he was shot by Israeli forces in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, hospital sources said.
Mohammed al-Hamaydah had been wounded in the abdomen when soldiers manning Israeli tanks posted on the border between Gaza and Egypt opened fire with machine guns on the Rafah refugee camp.
A 16-year-old Palestinian youth was killed in the same incident on Thursday.
A military source said at the time that troops had opened fire at two Palestinians who were in an unauthorised zone, close to a military position.
The soldiers assumed that the two suspects were planting a bomb but no device was retrieved from the scene after the shooting.
The latest death brings the overall toll since the September 2000 start of the Palestinian intifada, or uprising, to 4,243, including 3,245 Palestinians and 927 Israelis.
