ANKARA - Ottoman motifs and Sultans` Signatures will be introduced in a catwalk show in New York, one of heartlands of fashion in the world.
Nedret Taciroglu, a leading Turkish designer, will display her collection "Istanbul: City of Sultans" on September 5th during the New York Fashion Week.
The collection is composed of 30 pieces decorated with Ottoman motifs and tughras, a calligraphic seal or signature of an Ottoman sultan that was affixed to all official documents and correspondence and also carved on his seal and stamped on the coins minted during his reign.
In an interview with the A.A, Taciroglu said that she was the only Turkish designer to organize her own show in Milan, Italy, for three consecutive years, receiving reviews in Italian newspapers such as "Corriere Della Sera" and "II Giornale".
"The inspiration for my latest collection is the highly esteemed and important Sultans` Signatures. Each one is very distinctive and reflects the ruler`s power through very intricate designs featuring both letters and patterns. Pieces in the collection are reminiscent of clothes worn during the Ottoman Empire, and they reflect the historical heritage left by the Ottoman Empire to modern day Turkey," she said.
Taciroglu said that it took six months to complete the 30-piece collection blending history with modernism. "We used Swarovski crystals, chiffon and drapesas well as the colors red and beige in order to emphasize the glory of the Ottomans," she added.
Meanwhile, Taciroglu created an exclusive 18-piece collection for Nancy Reagan, wife of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
Taciroglu studied interior design at Istanbul`s Mimar Sinan University. She also designs home accessories.
