ANKARA - A German consumer electronics chain opened its biggest store in Turkey in the capital Ankara on Thursday.
The consumer electronics retailer "Media Markt" opened its biggest store in Turkey at a shopping mall named "Ankara Forum".
More than 70,000 different kinds of electronics products are on the shelves of the store.
Media Markt is a German chain of stores selling consumer electronics with numerous branches throughout Europe. It is Europe`s largest retailer of consumer electronics. The first store was opened in Munich, Germany in 1979.
Today, it is owned by MediaSaturn Holding, which also owns the rival Saturn chain of electronics and media stores. MediaSaturn Holding in turn is owned by the German retail company METRO AG.
The company decided to open stores abroad, and opened its first abroad store in France in 1989. Then it inaugurated stores in Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Greece, Sweden and Russia.
The first Media Markt store in Turkey was opened in 2007. At the beginning of 2008, Media Markt has over 500 superstores throughout Europe.
