ANKARA - Turkey`s next chief of general staff General Ilker Basbug, who handed over Land Forces Command on Wednesday, said terrorist organizations that lost support of people of the region could not survive.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Gen Basbug said Turkey has been face to face with the acts of terrorist organization since 1984.
"It is not possible for the terrorist organizations to survive after losing support of the regional people. To this end, people of the region should not be mistaken for terrorists, and fight against terrorism should be carried out in a legal order. Ensuring support of the regional people is of vital importance for security forces," he said.
Gen. Basbug said, "terrorism can only be eliminated through coordinated actions in areas like economy, socio-culture, psychological operation, measures in international platforms as well as in military area," Gen. Basbug said.
