ANKARA - Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Tuesday that Bangladesh was an important country for Turkey because it could be a bridge of trade in Asia.
Tuzmen received Bangladesh`s Adviser for Commerce & Trade, Hossain Zillur Rahman, in Ankara.
Tuzmen said that Turkey would exert efforts to increase the trade volume between Turkey and Bangladesh in the next period. Tuzmen added that annual Turkish exports to Bangladesh was 63 million USD and imports from Bangladesh was 245 million USD.
Tuzmen said that the trade volume between the two countries in the first six months of 2008 was 212 million USD, and it would reach 400 million USD by the end of the year.
Rahman also said that the two countries should target one billion USD as a trade volume. He added that Turkish products had a very important place in Bangladeshi market.
Rahman said that Turkey and Bangladesh could cooperate in textiles, tourism and transportation.
