BAGHDAD, Aug 18 (AFP) - A US soldier was killed when his patrol came under attack in the Baghdad stronghold of Shiite Muslim militiamen loyal to radical cleric Moqtada Sadr on Wednesday, the military said.
The soldier was pronounced dead at hospital from a gunshot wounded after his convoy was attacked in Sadr City at around 3:00 pm (1100 GMT), a statement said.
Based on statistics from the Pentagon website, the latest death brings to 705 the number of US soldiers killed in action in Iraq since the 2003 US-led invasion to topple Saddam Hussein.
