ATHENS, Aug 18 (AFP) - Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, known to millions as the man who wrote the music for the film "Zorba the Greek", is recovering in hospital in Athens after an operation to remove his gall bladder, hospital sources said Wednesday.
Theodorakis, 79, was taken to hospital after suffering acute pain in the pancreas. His condition is reported to be "satisfactory".
He was taken to hospital earlier this month with an inflammation of the gall bladder.
Theodorakis, from the Aegean island of Chios, is one of his country's most celebrated composers, known not only for his film music but for songs, ballets, symphonies and oratorios.
His music accompanied the Olympic flag at the opening of the Athens 2004 Olympics last week.
During the rule of the colonels' junta from 1967 to 1974, his music was banned.
