Istanbul Governor: More Than 200 Buildings Were Flooded In Alibeykoy Neighborhood

ISTANBUL - More than two hundred buildings were inundated by flood waters triggered by torrential rains in Alibeykoy neighborhood of Istanbul, Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler said on Tuesday.
''Damage-assessment efforts were initiated in the affected areas in the worst raining in Istanbul in the last decade,'' he said.
Guler visited Istanbul Municipality's Crisis Coordination Center (AKOM) and met Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbas and AKOM Chairman Mesut Pektas.
When asked whether or not those who suffered damage in flood disaster would be provided financial assistance, Guler said, ''after damage-assessment works are completed, necessary measures will be taken.''
''Damage-assessment efforts are conducted mainly in Eyup, Bagcilar and Esenler neighborhoods. Municipal teams received nearly 4,500 calls from people who requested help in these neighborhoods. Alibeykoy is the worst affected neighborhood,'' he added.
Meanwhile, Istanbul Mayor Topbas said, ''Alibeykoy, Cirpici and Tavukcu streams overflowed due to torrential rains inundating nearby buildings. Our teams have still been working to divert the flood waters from buildings. The teams have rescued nearly four hundred people so far.''
