The mayor of the Iraqi city of Mosul has survived an assassination attempt against his life in the northern part of the city, police say.
PRESSTV - Zuheir al-Aaraji escaped a murder bid against him as a bomb blast targeted his convoy in al-Hadbaa neighborhood in northern Mosul on Monday.
The explosion however injured one of his bodyguards.
Al-Aaraji has so far survived several attempts on his life.
The previous assassination attempt against him was in June 2008 when an explosive charge went off targeting his motorcade in al-Maared region in eastern Mosul. Three of al-Aaraji bodyguards were wounded in the incident.
Mosul, the capital city of Nineveh, is situated some 396 km (250 miles) northwest of Baghdad. The original city stands on the west bank of the Tigris River.
