PRESSTV - The US Secretary of State has warned Russia that it is playing a dangerous game with Washington and its allies who will back Georgia.
"This is a very dangerous game and perhaps one the Russians want to reconsider," Condoleezza Rice told reporters Monday on her way to an emergency NATO foreign ministers meeting on the Georgia-Russia conflict.
She also said NATO would not allow Moscow to win in Georgia, destabilize Europe or draw a new Iron Curtain through it.
"We are not going to allow Russia to draw a new line at those states that are not yet integrated into the trans-Atlantic structures," she said, referring to Georgia and Ukraine, which have not yet joined NATO or the EU.
"We have to deny Russian strategic objectives, which are clearly to undermine Georgia's democracy, to use its military capability to damage and in some cases destroy Georgian infrastructure and to try and weaken the Georgian state," she added.
Washington which has long been working hard to help Tbilisi join NATO is widely blamed for orchestrating the conflict by training Georgian military forces.
Russia has repeatedly expressed concern over increasing US-NATO involvement in its backyard and recently condemned the US for its war-mongering rhetoric against the country.
Former US treasury official Paul Craig Roberts in an earlier interview with Press TV blamed George W. Bush's administration for the conflict in the region.
"The neoconservatives who have controlled the Bush regime in Washington their plan is to bring Russia along with the entire Middle East and Iran under American hegemony so that whatever happens in the world is dictated from Washington," he said.
"And so these puppet states such as Georgia are part of the surrounding of Russia with American military bases and American missile systems such as the one they are going to put up in Poland."
