Victims Of 1999 Quake Disaster Commemorated

ANKARA - Those who lost their lives in the massive earthquake in northwestern Turkey have been commemorated on the 9th anniversary of the disaster.
People left flowers on spots, once the home of their beloved ones.
Although nine years have elapsed since the earthquake, its memories are still fresh in our minds, quake-survivors said.
The 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Marmara region, Turkey`s industrial and commercial heartland, at 3:02 a.m. on August 17th, 1999. The quake centered in Golcuk town of Kocaeli lasted for about 45 seconds and killed more than 17 thousand people. Tens of thousands of others were left homeless in the quake.

-A FILM DEPICTING HUMAN SIDE OF QUAKE DISASTER-

Meanwhile, Turkish movie-maker Ezel Akay has begun shooting a film to depict the human side of the quake disaster.
The film was produced by Sami Durdar who was trapped under debris of his house during the quake disaster for 27 hours.
The film will be shown in March 2009.
