ANKARA - The Turkish Ministry of Health aims at increasing the number of newborn units throughout Turkey up to 200 till 2010.
The Ministry of Health said that there were currently 156 newborn units with a capacity of 3,306 neonatal intensive care beds.
The Ministry targets to increase the number of units up to 200 and number of intensive care beds to 4,500 till 2010.
According to the Ministry data, 103 neonatologists and 2,597 specialized nurses were working in newborn units. Number of neonatologists will be increased to 525 and nurses to 9 thousand in the next two years.
Last year, 64,986 infants were admitted to newborn units.
