CHICAGO, Aug 16 (AFP) - Talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey showed up for court duty here Monday and was tapped to sit on a jury in a murder case.
The billionaire broadcaster, who was ordered to do jury duty after getting out of two previous summonses by citing conflicts with her work schedule, slipped into Cook County Circuit Court in Chicago through a rear entrance.
In comments to reporters, Winfrey suggested she might not be the best juror material, and cast doubt on the idea that prosecutors would chose her for their panels.
"I can have an open mind, but I'm really too opinionated," she said, adding "if I was on the other side, I wouldn't pick me."
Nevertheless, prosecutors selected her to hear the case of Deon Coleman, 27, who is charged with fatally shooting a man on the West Side of Chicago in February 2002 in an argument over a counterfeit 50 dollar bill.
Opening statements were heard Monday. The trial is expected to last three days.
"I'm just hoping it doesn't take longer than a week because I have shows to do," Winfrey said earlier.
