NEW YORK, Aug 16 (AFP) - World oil prices slipped Monday after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez comfortably won a recall referendum, easing fears of instability in the oil industry.
New York's light sweet crude contract for September delivery, which had spiked in electronic trading at an all-time high 46.91 dollars a barrel, fell 53 cents to close at 46.05 dollars.
Brent North Sea crude for September hit a record peak of 44.11 dollars before closing at 43.67 dollars, down 21 cents on the day.
