CHP DISCIPLINE BOARD DISCHARGES THREE DEPUTIES
Republican People's Party (CHP) Discipline Board decided to discharge Istanbul deputies Ahmet Guryuz Ketenci and Hasan Aydin and Ankara deputy Mehmet Tomanbay from CHP on Sunday. Ketenci, Aydin and Tomanbay were among 30 deputies who launched a campaign against CHP leader Deniz Baykal after local elections. Ketenci, Aydin and Tomanbay were sent to Discipline Board with decision of CHP Assembly on July 28.

SEMIHA BERKSOY PASSES AWAY
Semiha Berksoy, who was the first diva of Turkey, died at the age of 94 on Sunday. Semiha Berksoy's daughter Zeliha Berksoy said that she was the first opera artist of Turkey and she cannot be replaced.

AUTOMOTIVE EXPORT NOT TO DECELERATE
Foreign Trade Undersecretariat ensured 1.1 billion US dollars export guarantee from the automotive companies in return for imports to be used in production.

CITIZENS OF 68 COUNTRIES BUY REAL ESTATE FROM 70 PROVINCES OF TURKEY
Foreigners from 68 countries over the world extending from New Zealand and Indonesia to Norway and Guatemala with Greeks and Germans on the lead, purchased a total of 42,884 real estate in Turkey.

POWER OF TURK
Halil Mutlu lifted three times of his weight and won his third won Olympic weightlifting gold medal. Mutlu lifted 135kg in the snatch and hoisted 160 kg in the clean and jerk for a winning total of 295 kg. Serdar Artuc lifted 125 kg in the snatch and lifted 155 kg in the clean and jerk. Artuc won bronze medal in weightlifting in the Olympic Games.

RAINFALL OF 10 YEARS
Istanbul Municipality took some measures against the heaviest rainfall of 10 years. There will be heavy rain in Marmara region until Friday. Officials said that torrential rain threatened houses constructed on streambed, stating that some of houses built on streambed could be evacuated. Istanbul Municipality held a meeting and discussed measures taken against torrential rain.

ACCIDENT ON THE WAY IN THE AIR
Pilot Adem Ucaner who received a ''can't fly'' report from Bakirkoy State Hospital for ''depression and nervous breakdown'' was forced to fly by THY General Director disregarding the safety of the passengers. Ucaner who has 17 years of experience said his health has deteriorated because of intense flight schedule and criticized authorities who wanted him to continue working despite his report for 20 days. He claimed that working conditions in THY have been deteriorating each day and he had to resign because of pressure before his report ended.

WEAPONS OF TERROR CAME FROM IRAQ
In its 2003 report, department of fighting against smuggling and organized crime of Turkish police organization said authority vacuum in Iraq gave rise to arms smuggling that has tended to decrease in 2000 due to the intervention of coalition forces in Iraq in 2003 and the authority vacuum that has emerged after the intervention.

THIRD GOLD MEDAL TO MUTLU
31-year-old Halil Mutlu won weightlifting gold medal in the 56-kilogram category at the 28th Summer Olympic Games in Athens. Halil Mutlu lifted 135kg in the snatch and hoisted 160 kg in the clean and jerk for a winning total of 295 kg. Mutlu won his third consecutive Olympic gold medal.

AMERICANS SHOW GREAT INTEREST IN ''KAR''
Americans showed great interest in Orhan Pamuk's book ''Kar'' (Snow). The New York Times's pullout made Orhan Pamuk's book ''Kar'' cover subject.

FEAR OF DISASTER
Heavy rainfall which started in Istanbul on Sunday afternoon and continued overnight is expected to continue till Tuesday evening. After warnings of meteorology officials, Istanbul Natural Disaster Coordination Center held a meeting on Sunday. Following the meeting, Mayor Kadir Topbas held a press conference and warned citizens about torrential rains in Istanbul. Topbas said that people living in houses built on streambeds should not stay in their houses during heavy rainfall.

TOURISM INITIATIVE IN SAROS
Maritime Undersecretary Ismet Yilmaz said that Saros Gulf in northwestern Canakkale province should be turned into a marina. Yilmaz said that Saros Gulf should be protected and turned into a marina, stressing that nongovernmental organizations, local administrations and central administration should work together on this issue.

RAIN ALARM IN MARMARA
Meteorology Affairs General Directorate warned citizens that there would be the heaviest rainfall of 10 years in Marmara region on Monday and Tuesday. After this warning, municipalities and natural disaster coordination centers in the provinces of Marmara region took some measures against torrential rain.

Decision on their discharge was taken according to the provision in CHP regulations on ''assuming attitude which does not comply with membership of the party'', officials said.
