ATHENS, Aug 16 (AFP) - Greek police were on Monday investigating a road accident in which a 45-year-old Briton died after being hit by a car allegedly driven by a member of Denmark's Olympic sailing team.
The accident took place on Sunday near the Olympic sailing site of Agios Kosmas in the southern coastal area of Glyfada.
Police named the Dane as 23-year-old Nicklas Holm who was driving the car when the pedestrian was hit as he crossed the road.
Holm was being questioned in relation to "involuntary homicide and infringement of the highway laws," said a judicial source.
He has not been charged with any crime as, under Greek law, this can only be decided by a judge appointed to the case.
Holm, who was scheduled to take part in the Star class of sailing at the Games from August 22, was detained overnight but released by the prosecutor on Monday morning.
At the time of the accident, which occured at 2100 (1800 GMT) on the main highway close to the sailing venue, he was accompanied by teammate Claus Olesen and coach Thomas Jacobsen.
According to the Danish Olympic Committee, the victim was a 30-year-old Jamaican tourist guide while police sources claimed he was a 45-year-old Briton.
The Danish officials insisted that Holm had not been drinking before the incident.
