Modernization Of Border Crossings To Be Finalized In 2009

ANKARA - All of seventeen border-crossings in Turkey will be modernized by the end of 2009.
In an interview with the A.A, Customs Undersecretary Emin Zararsiz said on Monday, "there are 17 land border-crossings in Turkey. They will be modernized through the build-operate-transfer system."
"Gurbulak border-crossing with Iran, Ipsala border-crossing with Greece, Habur border-crossing with Iraq and Cylvegozu border-crossing with Syria have already been renewed. Construction works are continuing in three others. Constructions in Hamzabeyli border-crossing with Bulgaria will end in September, in Sarp border-crossing with Georgia on October 29th and Kapikule border crossing with Bulgaria by the end of the year," he said.
"Nusaybin and Akcakale border-crossings with Syria, Dilucu border-crossing with Nackhevan autonomous republic of Azerbajan, Turkgozu border-crossing with Georgia and Esendere border-crossing with Iran will also be renewed by the end of 2008," he said.
Zararsiz said that Derekoy border-crossing with Bulgaria, Pazarkule border-crossing with Greece, Yayladagi, Oncupinar and Karkamis border-crossings with Syria would be modernized in 2009.
"Modernization of the crossings will accelerate our trade with the neighboring countries. It will also assist our security forces in their fight against smuggling and illegal migration," he added.
