Nurcan Taylan of Turkey broke two world and five Olympic records and won golden medal in the 48 kg class in Olympic weightlifting in Athens on Saturday. ''Naturally it makes me happy, it is the first victory for a woman and I dedicate it to the Turkish nation,'' said Taylan.
UNAKITAN: ''WE ARE WORKING ON A NEW TAX SYSTEM''
Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said that they have been working on a new tax system. Unakitan said that they finished every kind of preparation to put into practice mortgage system in 2005. He noted that they were also carrying out a very important study to prevent unregistered economy.

ATATURK'S DAUGHTER
Weight Lifter Nurcan Taylan won the gold medal in Olympic Games in Athens. Turkey had the first victory in weight lifting with Taylan.
Taylan competed perfectly in the Olympic games where she first attended and won the gold medal.
Taylan combined a world record of 97.5 kg in the snatch and a trembling 112.5 kg lift in the clean and jerk for a new world record total of 210 kg to take gold in the 48 kg class.
Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin, who applauded Taylan standing, congratulated her. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called her on the phone and congratulated Taylan.
TRAGIC TRAFFIC ACCIDENT: 12 PEOPLE DIE
12 people died and many others were injured in traffic accident on main Konya-Ankara highway late on Saturday night.
The accident happened when a passenger bus and a truck collided.
According to the preliminary information, 12 people died and more than 20 others were injured.

Although the U.S. administration signed an action plan against terrorist organization PKK, it did not take any step on the issue. U.S. administration warned its citizens in Turkey about terrorist organization PKK which increased its attacks in the country. U.S. Embassy said that terrorist organization could intensify its acts of violence, claiming that terrorist organization PKK could stage attacks on planes and other transportation vehicles.
GERMAN TOURISTS' INTEREST IN TURKEY INCREASES
German tourists' interest in Turkey was increasing, German Fvw periodical said. According to a survey of the Fvw, 27.5 of German people is interested in Turkey for vacation. Last year, 28.8 percent of German tourists preferred Spain to spend their holiday. This figure reduced to 23.9 percent this year. Fvw periodical which also carries out surveys on consumer tendency said that German tourists were interested in not only southern part but also Aegean resorts of the country.

LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEER REMEMBERED
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and Transportation Ministry decided to take into consideration warnings of labor unions after train accidents.
Transportation Ministry asked TCDD to prepare a detailed report about locomotive engineers. After reports are completed, all locomotive engineers will have psychological tests.

FIVE PEOPLE DIE IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN TEKIRDAG
Five people died and 10 others were injured in a traffic accident in northwestern Tekirdag province. A lorry collided with another lorry because of brake failure near Tepe region. It caused collision of several vehicles with each other end to end. Five people died in the accident. Injured people were hospitalized immediately.
AK PARTY CELEBRATES ITS 3RD FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY
Turkish Prime Minister and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan planted the first one of 3 thousand trees in front of Textile City in Istanbul to mark the 3rd foundation anniversary of his party on Saturday. AK Party delegation headed by deputy leader Necati Cetinkaya visited Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Ataturk.

TCDD: ''WE HAVE NOT MADE STATEMENTS ACCUSING LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERS''
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) Directorate General said it did not make a statement accusing the locomotive engineers regarding the train accidents which occurred recently.
TCDD issued a written statement and said the news reports claiming that Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim and TCDD accused the locomotive engineers were groundless.
