DETAILED INFORMATION TO BE GIVEN AFTER 12 DAYS
Gebze Public Prosecutor Veysel Ertugrul, giving information about the studies carried out on the spot where the two trains collided head-on, stated that they confiscated all the documents which would explain the reason of the accident.
Ertugrul said, ''experts team will make detailed technical examination. A detailed report will be given after 12 days.''

ONLY 208 OF THE TRAINS HAVE ATS
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) Directorate General said TCDD has 738 vehicles having different models and peculiarities. 524 of them are main line railway engines. Only 208 of the 524 main line railway engines have ATS,'' the statement noted.
The statement said TCDD network has two separate signalization systems, adding that ATS equipment of those two systems are different from each other. Studies are underway to make all the locomotive engines appropriate to the ATS system.
The statement said Ankara-Istanbul railway line was up to the international standards, noting that foreign experts examined the railway line after the accident in Pamukova.
Eight people died and 88 others were injured in train accident in Tavsancil hamlet. The accident occurred at 16.30 local time Wednesday, after a train traveling from Ankara to Istanbul failed to stop at the red light and collided head-on with the Adapazari Express.

MAGNIFICENT OPENING
2004 Athens Olympic Games started in Athens with an opening ceremony. Olympiad flag was hoisted at the ceremony. Sportsman Ali Enver Adakan was carrying the Turkish flag as Turkish team entered the stadium.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan watched the opening ceremony together with Greek Prime Minister Costas Caramanlis.

BASKENT EXPRESS DISREGARDED ALSO THE YELLOW LIGHT
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) Directorate General said that it has been definitely determined from the graphics of the regional control system that the signal was red for the Baskent Express, which crashed into the Adapazari express.
TCDD issued a written statement and said ''according to the preliminary studies, Baskent Express, traveling from Ankara to Istanbul, disregarded the yellow signal first and later failed to stop at the red light''.
The written statement said the accident occurred when Baskent Express entered the road which was assigned to the passage of Adapazari Express.

OLYMPICS DREAM
The Olympic Games opened at a spectacular ceremony in Athens, Greece on Friday. After the parade of nations in the grand opening ceremony, Greek President Costis Stephanopoulos opened the Athens Games. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his wife Emine Erdogan and State Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin attended the ceremony. Sixty-seven Turkish sportsmen and sportswomen will compete in the Olympic Games which will last for 17 days.

GULER: ''WE CAN TAKE ADDITIONAL MEASURES AGAINST INCREASE IN OIL PRICE''
Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler said that they could take additional measures against increase in oil price. Guler held a press conference and noted that they aimed to produce synthetic oil by their own resources.

MEASURE AFTER ACCIDENT
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) Directorate General started to make investments after accidents killing and injuring many people because of lack of necessary measures.
TCDD decided to install ATS-Auto Train Stop system to 400 trains which warns the engineer 1.5 km before the red light in case the engineer does not reduce the speed of the train.
TCDD will make an investment worth of eight million U.S. dollars.

FREIGHT TRAIN DERAILS IN AFYON
Six railway cars of a freight train derailed near Kiziloren town in western province of Afyon closing Afyon-Denizli railway line to transportation.
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) officials said the train was travelling from western Burdur province to southern Iskenderun province.
Officials said they were searching for the reason of the accident.
There are no reported casualties.

EXPERT GROUP: ''TRACKS ARE DEFECTIVE''
Expert group who was assigned to examine railway between Ankara and Istanbul after train accident occurred near Pamukova town of northwestern province of Sakarya on July 22, killing 38 people and injuring 80 others found out that railway tracks between Ankara and Istanbul were defective.

FIRST WARM DAYS THEN RAINY DAYS
Meteorology Directorate said that temperatures would start to increase across the country, adding that there would also be heavy rain in Turkey on Sunday. Meteorology officials warned people about floods and thunderbolt.

Turkey has been getting prepared to break record in tourism sector. According to press reports in French newspapers, the number of foreign tourists spending their holiday in Turkey will reach 16 million or more at the end of this year. Turkey hosted 6,701,825 tourists in the first half of 2004.

Ghazi al-Ujayl al-Yawr, the head of State of the Interim Government in Iraq, will pay his first official visit to Turkey on Monday.
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will host al-Yawr.
Consulate General in Mosul, fight against Kongra-Gel and safety of Turkish drivers will be discussed during the visit.
