KONYA - Turkey's interior minister said on Friday that 16 people died and 27 were wounded after a building collapsed in the central Anatolian province of Konya early on Friday.
Interior Minister Besir Atalay, State Minister Nimet Cubukcu and Health Minister Recep Akdag arrived in Taskent town of Konya where a dormitory for girl students collapsed after an explosion.
The ministers held talks with local officials and watched the ongoing search & rescue efforts at the site.
Expressing his sorrow over the incident, Atalay told reporters that the wounded students were currently under treatment.
"We have been informed that 16 students died and 27 were injured. We think that there are still 4 or 6 more children under the rubble. The exact numbers are not clear yet," Atalay said.
