Turkey Sweeps Mines For A New Border Crossing At Syrian Border

NUSAYBIN - Turkey has swept land mines in a southeastern town to open a new border crossing at its border with Syria, an executive of the company that cleaned the mines, said on Friday.
Turkey`s TUSAN Yapi Sanayi (construction industry company) won the tender opened to clean an area in Nusaybin town of the southeastern province of Mardin in order to construct a new border crossing.
A technical team, comprised of six people including an expert from TUSAN`s German partner TAUBER, cleaned land mines in an area of 20 hectares with its mine-sweeping devices, and destroyed 310 anti-personnel, 35 anti-tank mines and a grenade.
"We totally cleared the area from mines in 26 days," Siddik Ozdemir, the director general of Tauber company, told AA correspondent.
Ozdemir said that land mines across Turkey-Syria border could be cleared in five years.
