KONYA - The death toll rose to 11 after a building collapsed in the central Anatolian province of Konya early on Friday.
A building, used as a girl student dormitory in Konya's Taskent town, collapsed around 5 a.m., killing 11, the mayor of the neighborhood said.
Earlier, the death toll was announced as eight.
Mayor Mehmet Demirgul of Bagcilar neighborhood predicted that there might be five or six more students under the rubble, and said efforts were under way to rescue them.
Demirgul said that more than 20 students were injured and hospitalized so far.
A three-storey building totally collapsed after an explosion which was believed to be caused by a LPG canister.
Also, one of the five students who were sent to a hospital in Konya was in serious condition and underwent a surgery. Other four were in stable condition, doctors said.
