ATHENS - Police on the Greek island of Santorini arrested a man walking through his village holding the decapitated head of his wife, a police source said Sunday.
The 35-year-old man, who had received psychiatric treatment in the past, had decapitated his wife at their home in Vourvoulos and then took the head and carried it around the streets of the village on Sunday afternoon.
When four police officers tried to arrest him, he threatened them with the knife he had used to commit the crime, wounding one of the officers.
The officers fired four shots at his feet in an effort to stop him but he managed to get into the police car and take off.
However, suffering from his wounds, the man was arrested a few minutes later after a police chase.
