GAZIANTEP - Excavations will resume in Zeugma Ancient City in Nizip town of southeast Gaziantep province.
Gaziantep Governor's Office stated on Friday that excavations in Zeugma Ancient City, which has an important role to promote Gaziantep, will resume on August 16.
In previous years 50 percent of Zeugma was excavated. Activities will restart to complete excavation in ''Danae Villa'' in Zeugma. Four mosaics which were deteriorated by waters of Birecik Dam Lake will be restored and a barrier will be built between waters and Villa to prevent the negative effects of the waters.
Excavations will be carried out under the guidance of Gaziantep Museum experts. Zeugma theater excavations will be pursued by a team conducted by French scientist Catharine Abadie Reynal from Nantes University. Another team which will be headed by Dr. Martin Hartman from Swiss Bern University, will work on the artifacts.
