Famed Chef And T.V. Hostess Julia Child Dies At 91: Publisher

NEW YORK, Aug 13 (AFP) - Cooking legend Julia Child, who introduced the art of fine French cuisine to American households more than 40 years ago, died in her sleep in her California home at the age of 91, her book publisher said Friday.
Child died Sunday at her home in Santa Barbara, California, said a spokesman for the publishing house Alfred A. Knopf. The family will later release more details on her death, the spokesman added.
Child, who was born in Pasadena, California, in 1913, was introduced to French cuisine when her husband, a diplomat, was sent to the US embassy in Paris after World War II.
Her 1961 cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" became a French cooking reference in the United States, while her 1960s public television show "The French Chef" reached millions of American households.
