Upon returning from the 15th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, Mohammad Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah told reporters that the relative peace and stability in the region should not be shaken by unnecessary measures, the IRINN reported.
The Kuwaiti official hailed the presence of William Burns, representing the US, at Iran nuclear talks in Geneva. He said that Kuwait views the move as constructive, one that would help ease the current tension over Iran's nuclear issue.
The US government had ruled out any measures to engage in direct talks with the Islamic Republic unless Tehran halts its enrichment program. Burns' presence in Geneva talks, however, is largely viewed as a step backward in the US' stance.
The US envoy to the Geneva talks, however, did not actively take part in the negotiations leaving no contribution to smooth out the differences.
Sheik Al-Sabah said that the NAM ministers endorsed the Islamic Republic's bid for the UN Security Council elected membership, a move that could limit further American sanctions on Iran. Tehran announced the bid Sunday prior to the NAM summit.
