BERLIN - German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Thursday that he welcomed a ruling by Turkey's top court not to close down the governing Justice and Development (AK) Party.
Releasing a written statement, Steinmeier said he was relieved by the ruling.
"The important thing is now that all authorities should contribute to reconciliation and political stability, and decisively continue with reforms process," Steinmeier said.
The German minister said it was important for Turkey to strengthen its democratic institutions under a constitutional reform and see its law on political parties to conform with European standards.
