European Executives Comment On Turkey's Top Court Decision

MADRID/BRUSSELS - European executives defined on Wednesday the decision of Turkey`s top court regarding the ruling political party as positive.
Turkey`s Constitutional Court decided not to close ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party. Six members of the court voted for closure of the political party while four others voted for depriving the party of the financial assistance, and one member voted for the rejection of the case.
Cristina Gallach, the spokesperson of Javier Solana-the European Union (EU) high representative for the common foreign and security policy, defined the decision as positive.
Gallach said that the EU expected and hoped that this decision would help Turkey re-gain political stability.
Also commenting on the decision, Graham Watson, the leader of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe at the European Parliament (EP), said that this decision was the sign that Turkey continued to proceed on its modern democracy path.
Watson said that the decision would disprove arguments of those who said that Turkey had no place in the EU, and defined the decision as a further step in Turkey-EU negotiations.
