ANKARA - The Turkish parliament decorated on Wednesday a professor with honorary award.
The parliament honored Halil Inalcik, a professor in history, with honorary award in a ceremony in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
Prof. Inalcik was born in Istanbul in 1916. He graduated from Faculty of Languages and History-Geography (Faculty of Letters) in 1935.
Inalcik can speak English, German and French. He received doctorate from universities of Bogazici, Uludag, Selcuk, Athens and Bucharest and Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Inalcik was elected a member to American Academy in 1986, and British Academy in 1993. He is still working in Ankara`s Bilkent University.
Turkish parliament presented its honorary award to Prof. Ihsan Dogramaci, a pediatric physician, an academician and an international leader of development, in 2007. He was the founder of Ankara`s Bilkent University and the founding president of the Higher Board of Education (YOK) from 1981 to 1992. He established Ankara`s Hacettepe University in 1967, which is one of the best state universities in Turkey in medicine-related areas. He also served the Middle East Technical University and Ankara University.
