BERLIN - A German politician welcomed on Wednesday the decision of Turkey`s top court regarding the ruling party.
Turkey`s Constitutional Court decided not to close ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party. Six members of the court voted for closure of the political party while four others voted for depriving the party of the financial assistance, and one member voted for the rejection of the case.
Claudia Roth, the co-chairperson of the German Green Party, welcomed the decision and defined it as a good signal.
Turkey needed a well-operating atmosphere of political competition, not a military intervention or a ban against the will of the majority of the nation, Roth said in a written statement.
A ban could have brought Turkey backward, Roth also said.
Roth said that Turkey was a reliable partner of the European Union (EU), but said that there was a slow down in Turkey`s reform process.
