The Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says establishment of peace and security in the region is in the best interest of all nations.
"The Islamic Republic backs any effort which contributes to the restoration of peace and security in the region," said Larijani in a meeting with Arab League Secretary General, Amr Moussa, in Tehran Wednesday morning.
Praising Moussa's efforts to defuse regional disputes and establish peace in some areas of the Muslim world, Larijani pointed out that promoting stability and maintaining peace should be the regional states' main strategy.
The Iranian official criticized warmongering US policies in the Middle East, saying the Untied States is suffering from the losses incurred by the Iraq war and has paid a big price for its hostile policies in the region.
The Arab League Secretary General Moussa termed Iran as a key regional power and commended the country for its significant role in the restoration of peace and stability in crisis-torn countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon.
Moussa also called for the continuation of an exchange of views between the Islamic Republic and the Arab League so that the stage would remain set for the promotion of regional and international cooperation.
Moussa further elaborated on his attempts to bring peace to Lebanon and Sudan, saying negotiations over the issues are still underway.
The Arab League official is in Tehran attending the 15th Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) July 29-30.
