HATAY - Turkey's southern province of Hatay is being promoted on the internet by a German tourist who fell in love with the historical beauty of the city after spending a holiday there with his Turkish-origin wife.
In an interview with A.A on Monday, German engineer Karsten Brandt said that he was quite impressed with the historical and natural beauties of Hatay when he first visited the city 5 years ago.
"I first bought a house in Hatay and then I started visiting the city at least 4 times a year together with my wife and children," Brandt said.
After collecting essential information on the city during his visits and taking pictures of the locations to be introduced, Brandt launched the web-site "www.antakya.tv" 5 months ago.
Brandt said that the web-site, which introduced Hatay to foreigners in 3 languages, was visited by numerous tourists from all around the world and mainly by U.S. travellers.
Brandt also said he would soon prepare an introductory book on Hatay and organize tours to the city from various countries.
Hatay is a province of southern Turkey, on the Mediterranean coast, with Syria to the south and east.
With its easy climate and fertile soil, this crossing point between Syria and Anatolia is one of the longest-established areas in the region, settled since the early Bronze Age.
The world's second-largest collection of Roman mosaics and the rock-carved Church of St. Peter, a site of Christian pilgrimage, are some of the important historical places in the city.
