Human Error Blamed For Gebze Train Collision

ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - Human error has been blamed for the train crash at the town of Tavsancil which left 8 people dead and 88 injured.
Turkish Railway Service Directorate (TCDD) experts, said on Wednesday at the accident scene that one of the trains had failed to stop not through signal failure but through driver error.
The TCDD said that the Baskent Express ran a red light and so caused the accident.
The Turkish Prime Ministry Crisis Center also revealed that the red light violation by the Baskent Express prompted the accident.
The speedometer of the two trains showed that the Baskent Express was traveling at 82.5 kilometer/hour while Adapazari Express was traveling at 10 kilometer/hour at the time of the accident.
The Turkish Prime Ministry Crisis Center has put the death toll at 8 and the number of injured people at 88 in the train collision which took place at the town of Tavsancil in the province of Kocaeli on Wednesday.
24 passengers are still receiving treatment in hospitals while 64 others have been discharged.
The Baskent Express was carrying 171 passengers along with 9 staff while the Adapazari Express was carrying nearly 400 passengers.
Last month, thirty-nine people were killed and 81 injured in a train derailment which occurred in the northwestern Turkish province of Sakarya.
