Turkish Foreign Ministry Pleased Over Decision To Start Comprehensive Talks In Cyprus

ANKARA - The Turkish Foreign Ministry welcomed Friday the Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders' decision to start comprehensive negotiations in Cyprus.
"We are pleased that the two leaders decided during their meeting today (July 25th) to start comprehensive negotiations on September 3rd," the ministry said in a written statement.
The ministry said that Turkey always supported the start of comprehensive talks within the framework of the good will mission of the UN Secretary General in an effort to reach a settlement in Cyprus issue based on UN parameters such as a bi-zonal state structure, political equality and a new partnership to be formed by two founder states.
The ministry also said that Turkey hoped the activities of technical committees, which were launched upon the efforts of the Turkish Cypriot party, would yield positive outcomes.
