IZMIR - The 22nd International Izmir Festival has ended with a concert conducted by worldwide famous conductor Zubin Mehta.
In an interview with the A.A, Filiz Sarper Eczacibasi, chairperson of the Izmir Foundation for Culture, Art and Education (IKSEV) which organized the festival, said that the event was appreciated both on national and international levels.
"This year's festival from June 9th to June 22nd hosted renowned musicians such as Mehta, Julian Lloyd Webber and Lucia Micarelli. Mehta came to Izmir as a tourist during the first years of the festival. The ancient city of Ephesus amazed him. This year, we had the chance of hosting him," she said.
Eczacibasi said that they needed larger and more equipped halls in Izmir for further contributions to cultural life of Turkey.
IKSEV is an independent and autonomous foundation which was officially established on December 16th, 1985. Its objective is to bring Izmir back to her true identity as an "international city of arts and culture". IKSEV has so far successfully organized many events such as the International Izmir Festival and the Izmir European Jazz Festival.
