ADANA - Thirty-five companies in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey have been included in the list of 500 giant industrial organizations in Turkey, head of a businessmen`s federation said on Thursday.
Suleyman Onatca, chairperson of the Eastern Mediterranean Federation of Industrialists and Businessmen, said the number of companies from Gaziantep and Adana provinces included in the list of 500 giant industrial organizations in Turkey had increased remarkably in the recent period.
Eastern Mediterranean Region has become a center attracting investments in the recent years, Onatca stated.
"Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Oil Pipeline Project, establishment of shipyards in Yumurtalik Free Zone, new refineries (that will be established in Ceyhan), developments in iron-steel sector in Iskenderun and a great activity in tourism sector in the region are of great importance for the future of eastern Mediterranean. These investments will double the number of companies from the region in the list," he said.
Istanbul Chamber of Industry released a report on 500 giant industrial organizations in Turkey in 2007, and put the Turkish Oil Refineries Corp. (Tupras) at the top of its list.
