AYDIN - The 1st Meandros festival being held in Didim town of the Aegean province of Aydin is hosting an international symposium on stone sculpture.
Participants of the "Didyma International Stone Sculpture" symposium will display their works at an exhibition scheduled to be opened on July 27th.
Sculptors from several different countries who have qualified to partake in the symposium are striving to finish their sculptures at a workshop in the yard of a elementary school in the town.
Songul Delek, who finished her sculpture (285x120x90cms) depicting the Meandros river three days before the exhibition said it was a delight for her to partake in the project.
Another artist participating in the symposium, Gerardo Arribas Perez-Diaz(Spain) said he was confident that his work titled "Full Moon Shadow" would receive praise in the exhibition while Japanese Sculptor Taro Kitagawa said he could not name his work.
Art director of the symposium Nilhan Sesalan said the participating artists were moved by the region and added that their inspirations from the area would be reflected in their future works.
"Our goal was to form a bridge between the historic fiber of the delta of civilizations and contemporary art, and create a medium for artists who reside in different countries and have different backgrounds to share their knowledge, to allow artists to meet with the local population, and earn Didyma, quality contemporary artworks," said Sesalan.
