ISTANBUL - Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) chairman & executive board president of Takasbank Huseyin Erkan paid a working visit to Athens Exchange SA (ATHEX) and Hellenic Exchanges Holding SA (Helex) on Wednesday.
According to a press release by IMKB, Erkan and Chairman of ATHEX and Chief Executive Officer of HELEX Spyros I. Capralos and a high ranking delegation discussed structure and operation of the two markets and developments in stock exchange industry at the meeting.
The meeting gave the opportunity to the representatives of Takasbank and HELEX to explore the possibility of further cooperation between the two companies, as well as the possibility of creating a common index between ATHEX and IMKB, with the purpose of issuing a common exchange traded fund (ETF) that will be traded in both markets, the statement said.
Speaking at the meeting, Erkan said cooperation of ATHEX and IMKB would present new investment opportunities, rise the liquidity and reinforce capital markets of the two countries.
Carpalos said the exchange industry worldwide was changing at a very rapid pace, and that they had to adapt to the new developments in order to respond to the increasing competition.
Carpalos said, "Turkey is a large market in our region that has excellent potential and high growth rates. Cooperation between the Exchanges and Depositories of the two countries will help both markets develop and will have positive effects for investors and other market participants."
