A Russian scientific group says it has located wreckage from an extraterrestrial vessel near the Tunguska river, site of a baffling 1908 explosion, Interfax reported Wednesday. The team, affiliated with a public fund dedicated to studying the Tunguska phenomenon, also recovered a 50-kilogram stone now being examined in Krasnoyarsk.
Nearly a century ago, on 30 June 1908, a massive blast, widely attributed to a meteorite detonating several kilometers above the ground, flattened more than 2,000 square kilometers of forest and sent shockwaves across hundreds of kilometers. The cause and origin of that event have never been definitively established.
