Four Killed In Gebze Train Collision

ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - Two trains collided on Wednesday in the northwestern Turkish town of Gebze near Koaceli.
Four people were killed and several passengers were injured, according to immediate reports.
The Turkish channel NTV reported that the Ankara Baskent Express commuter train, traveling to Istanbul from Ankara, collided with the Adapazarý Express in the district of Tavsanlý in the town of Gebze.
The Basket Express was carrying 171 passengers along with 9 staff members.
Turkish TV reported that several passengers were trapped in the first car.
Several ambulances and rescue workers were sent to the region. Kocaeli Governor Erdal Ata also arrived at the scene. Many ambulances and rescue vehicle from Sakarya and Izmit were mobilized to the region.
Thirty-nine people were killed and 81 injured in the train derailment, which occurred in the northwestern Turkish province of Sakarya last month.
Commuter train services between Istanbul and Ankara, which were suspended due to the Sakarya train derailment disaster, resumed last weekend.
Cargo trains had already begun using the route, which had been closed following the Sakarya train disaster , again early last Thursday following the decision of experts.
