JERUSALEM, Aug 10 (AFP) - A close female Israeli friend of one of the most wanted Palestinian militants has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in anti-Israeli attacks, a police spokesman told AFP Tuesday.
"Tali Fahima was arrested on Monday following a joint police and Shin Beth (internal security service) inquiry on suspicion of contacts with terrorists and having been implicated in the planning of attacks," national police spokesman Gil Kleiman said.
Fahima, who is a close friend of Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades commander Zakaria Zubeidi, was remanded in custody for 10 days when she appeared before a court near Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
Zubeidi is the leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs, an armed offshoot of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's mainstream Fatah movement, in the group's stronghold in the northern West Bank town of Jenin.
He has survived a number of assassination attempts and is wanted in connection with a string of deadly attacks on Israeli targets.
Fahima, from Tel Aviv, is believed to be the first Israeli Jew to be arrested on suspicion of involvement in Palestinian attacks.
