British Tourists Prefer Turkey For Holidays

ANTALYA - The head of a leading tourism association of Turkey said on Sunday that the number of British tourists visiting Turkey increased remarkably in 2008.
In an interview with A.A, Ahmet Barut, chairperson of Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TUROFED), said that this year`s increase in the number of British tourists was "above the expectations".
"Such interest of British travellers stem from the fact that Europe is now much more expensive for them. British pound`s losing value compared to Euro helped the Turkish tourism sector," Barut said.
"British tourists, who have always preferred Spain and Greece for vacations, chose Turkey as a holiday destination this year for the first time," he also said.
Barut said that the number of tourists arriving in Turkey in 2008 increased considerably compared to last year`s figures. He said the number of tourists visiting the country rose 17 percent this year.
