Turkey's Premier Attaches Importance To Turkish-Greek Cypriot Leaders Meeting

LEFKOSA - Turkey`s prime minister said on Saturday that he attached importance to a meeting between Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders.
Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted the importance of the meeting to take place between President Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias on July 25th.
"The process should be carried out under the auspices of the United Nations (UN)," Erdogan told a joint press conference with Talat in Lefkosa, TRNC.
Erdogan said that it could be possible to get a result (from talks) if Christofias approached a solution positively like Talat.
"The main criteria is a fair, comprehensive and permanent Cyprus formed by two nations and two founder states under a political equality," Erdogan also said.
Erdogan said that the process could proceed rapidly if two sides agreed on fundamental principles, and told reporters that it was the Greek Cypriot administration who was blocking the process after he referred to the result of the simultaneous referenda held in the island on April 24th, 2004 on a reunification plan.
Turkish Cypriots voted in favor of the plan, whereas the Greek Cypriot rejected it.
