ANKARA - Turkey`s Energy Minister said on Thursday that the "Mediterranean Pipeline Project" (Medstream) was a peace project that would contribute to the peace and stability of the Mediterranean region.
Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler held talks with National Infrastructures Minister Binyamin Ben Eliezer of Israel and an accompanying delegation in capital Ankara.
Holding a joint press conference after the meeting, Guler said energy issue, joint energy projects to be implemented in the region and the Medstream project which envisaged the construction of a pipeline between Turkey and Israel, were on the agenda of the talks.
Guler said India was also included in the project and therefore a tripartite meeting would be held with the participation of Turkish, Israeli and Indian officials in the next 10 days.
"This will be followed by a ministerial meeting," he added.
Guler said that Medstream would focus on the transfer of oil, natural gas, water, electricity and optical fiber cables.
He also said Turkey was not solely interested in the commercial and technical aspect of the project.
"Turkey sees this project as an initiative that will contribute to the peace and stability in the region, this is a peace project," he said.
