ANKARA - Capital outflow from Turkey has been decreasing. Amount of direct investments in other countries by investors living in Turkey dropped to 87 million U.S. dollars at the end of first half of 2004 from 398 million U.S. dollars at the end of 2003.
According to the Treasury Department's statistics, totals investments abroad by investors living in Turkey since 1997 reached 6,455 million U.S. dollars.
Between 1997-2004, these investors made the highest amount of investments in Netherlands with 2,140 million U.S. dollars and it was followed by Azerbaijan with 1,041 million U.S. dollars and Britain with 524 million U.S. dollars.
Netherlands was also the country to which the highest amount of capital was exported from Turkey in the first half of 2004. Investors living in Turkey invested 82 million U.S. dollars in Netherlands in this period while it was followed by Kazakhstan with 1.3 million U.S. dollars and Ireland with 1.2 million U.S. dollars.
