JERUSALEM, Aug 11 (AFP) - The commander of an Israeli army brigade has been dismissed by chief of staff Moshe Yaalon after a probe into the recent killing of two soldiers by Lebanon-based Hezbollah snipers, officials said Wednesday.
Sergeants Itai Iluz and Avishai Kurisky were shot dead on July 20 after being ordered to mount the roof of an outpost and fix an antenna near the border even though the area was on a high state of alert.
A government statement said that Yaalon had accepted the recommendations of an official inquiry "to take measures against the chain of command that was involved in the incident."
The brigade commander and its communications officer were being relieved of their posts while two other commanders were to be reprimanded, it added.
The area had been on a high state of alert at the time following the killing of a leading Hezbollah commander in a Beirut car bomb blamed on Israel.
Some time passed until it was discovered that the two sergeants had been injured, and the pair later died of their wounds.
