Four Miners Feared Dead In Turkish Mine Blast

ANKARA, Aug 10 (AFP) - Four Turkish miners were presumed killed Tuesday after a firedamp explosion in a privately owned coal mine northeast of Ankara, the Anatolia news agency said citing officials.
The deputy governor of the province, Sahin Bayhan, said it had been impossible to descend into the mine because of the high concentration of the deadly gas, mostly comprised of methane.
"We think the four miners caught in the explosion are dead," he added.
Three other miners were rescued from the facility, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) from Ankara.
In March, five Chinese workers were killed in a firedamp explosion in a mine at Zonguldak in northern Turkey.
