GAZIANTEP - A Turkish lorry driver who was reported missing in Iraq while he was ferrying potable water to U.S. troops, is staying in a prison in Iraq, his company said on Tuesday.
Officials from Kilic Nakliyat, a Turkish transportation company, said they had found out that their driver Ramazan Caparusagi who is married with four children living in Turkey's southeastern Gaziantep province, was imprisoned on charges of involvement in a traffic accident in Iraq.
''We searched his whereabouts when we heard about the reports (that he was missing), in the Turkish newspapers. In those reports, his wife said she could not hear from her husband for forty days. Those reports also said he was lastly seen loading construction equipment on behalf of our company in Zakho. And we telephoned our office in Zakho. Then we found out that he was involved in a traffic accident near Kirkuk and Iraq's police sent him to jail. We suppose that he would appear at court and be released soon,'' they added.
